About Jay Farrington

U.S. Navy Veteran | Retired Law Enforcement Leader | Adjunct Professor | Safety Training Coordinator

Jay Farrington is the Founder and CEO of Ready Ops Training, bringing more than three decades of leadership experience across military service, law enforcement, and organizational leadership.

A U.S. Navy veteran and retired San Diego Law Enforcement Leader, Jay served over 26 years in roles ranging from patrol officer and gang detective to include SDPD SWAT operator and Supervising Investigator at San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. Throughout his career, he led teams in high-risk, high-consequence environments where clarity, accountability, and leadership directly impacted lives.

While tactical experience shaped Jay’s foundation, leadership became his focus. Witnessing both exceptional and failed leadership firsthand, he became driven to understand why some teams thrive under pressure while others fractured. This pursuit led him to earn a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and to develop leadership programs that bridge real-world experience with evidence-based leadership science.

Jay recognizes exceptional talent and has intentionally built a high-caliber team of experienced leaders and instructors drawn from law enforcement command, military special operations, and organizational leadership, bringing together diverse skill sets shaped by real-world missions and complex leadership environments.

In addition to his professional work, Jay serves as the Safety Training Coordinator for Skyline Church, one of the largest faith-based organizations in the region, where he helps guide safety training, preparedness initiatives, and leadership development for volunteer and professional teams. This role reflects his commitment to responsible stewardship, community protection, and servant leadership while maintaining the same professional standards he brings to every organization he serves.

Jay believes in life long learning where he serves as an Adjunct Professor at National University, teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses across Homeland Security & Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, and Organizational Leadership. Through his academic role, he remains actively engaged in leadership research, adult learning principles, and the development of future leaders across public and private sectors.

Today, through Ready Ops Training, Jay leads a collaborative team dedicated to equipping leaders and organizations with practical training that strengthens people, protects mission, and builds confident readiness in an unpredictable world.

TESTIMONIALS

“I have had the pleasure of working with Jay for many years in a law enforcement capacity and as a trainer for the private and public sector. Jay was part of a handpicked cadre of instructors for the San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute and I have had Jay come in as a guest speaker to my college classes to bring his real-life expertise to my CJ students. Over the years, I have taught several courses with Jay and I’ve seen firsthand his skills as an instructor and mentor. Jay is very relatable and incorporates his experience into the courses he teaches. Jay is a consummate professional who works hard to ensure his training courses are relevant and engaging.”

Matthew O’Deane

Ph.D.

“Jay and his team bring a level of professionalism, skill, and real-world experience that’s rarely seen outside of high-level law enforcement and military training environments. We’ve had the privilege of training with them across a wide range of courses—from introductory low-light fundamentals to fast-paced rifle/pistol combination work—tailored precisely to what we asked for and, more importantly, to what our team could realistically handle.

One of the things I respect most about Jay and his crew is their ability to accurately assess skill levels and adapt instruction accordingly. I’ve watched complete newcomers get brought up the right way, while seasoned veterans are challenged, humbled (in the best sense), and walk away with a sharper mindset and tangible new skills.

All of this is delivered in an outstanding training atmosphere: professional, approachable, and completely ego-free. The focus is always on sound tactics and skills proven in the real world, not posturing or hype. Every time we train with Jay, we know we’re in capable hands and that we’ll leave measurably better than when we arrived.

Regardless of your background or experience level, you simply can’t go wrong training with Jay and his team.”

Dalton V.

Lieutenant of Security
at San Diego area community Church

“This is a leadership class everyone should take. I have been through many leadership training courses, but they were very superficial. I truly appreciate having the opportunity to interact with the non-sworn law enforcement members that attended. This course was leadership A to Z covering many aspects of leadership that aren’t often discussed as a path to being an effective and dynamic leader.”

Dave B.

Police Lieutenant

“This course should be essential for all new and experienced leaders. The instruction addresses all aspects of dynamic leaders: personal awareness, physical health considerations, leadership theory, practiced application, and employee management. By merging sworn and civilian leaders, the course provides participants with the unique and balanced insight necessary for leading all types of agency employees. This course is not about receiving information, it is about applying learned techniques in a collaborative environment that bridges the gap between sworn and non-sworn to create the synergy needed to function as a law enforcement team.”
